Bear Runner Blonde Ale from New Ontario Brewing Company in North Bay, Ontario. 4.5% alc. 15 IBUs.
Beer is golden coloured and has a small white head that evaporates quickly.
Smell is slight grain and subtle sweetness. This transfers to the taste and there is also a detectable mild malt note.
The mouthfeel is kind of flat, almost like flat ginger ale. This is somewhat off-putting.
The finish is dry.
I think New Ontario needs to spend more time on this. The end result is acceptable at best.
Try it if you like the style but don’t expect much.
Grade: C.

Great to see North Bay supporting a local craft brewery. New Ontario is a real gem in Northern Ontario. Onto the Bear Runner Blonde Ale: Having just completed a 10 km run on a hot day, I’m somewhat dehydrated. Poured a Bear Runner (chilled in the fridge, 39 F) into a frosty glass from the freezer...beer poured very well, reasonable head, and a very crisp taste...enjoyed the overall experience. I will definitely purchase a 6 pack

Golden and slightly hazy, very little carbonation and topped with a half finger of snow white head.
Smells of malts, cardboard, and overall a well preserved beer.
Honey biscuit with a hint of sourdough.
Light body with moderate to low carbonation.
Love the can, and the whole theme of the beer. Decent in flavour, your typical all round beer beer. Drinking in Muskoka, January 17th, 2018.

What can I say about this beer? I'd like to be positive about it, but I'm afraid I can't. This beer looks tepid from the start...no head and flat looking. The smell is sweet malts, almost too sweet. When I taste the beer it becomes obvious that the malts are sweet and dominant. This is bordering on unpleasant. Feel is watery with little carbonation.
Was this beer old? Was that it? Nope canned less than three weeks ago. It's just not a good beer.

Nothing remarkable here. Something you'd have trouble picking out of a line up. Clear gold, almost immediately headless. Hops and a whiff of alcohol on the nose. More hoppy than malty. Yes a hint of lemon and pepper. Meh, but inoffensive.

473 ml can served cold into a tulip. Purchased for under 43 CDN at the LCBO.
Appearance - A dark yellowy gold color with plenty of haze. A finger of so of egg shell white head that lingers for a few minutes.
Smell- Not a lot some faint graininess with some light peppery hops and grassy notes.
taste - Lemon and pepper with some sweetness. Then thinness with a slightly metallic taste. Bitter finish with hints of melon.
Mouthfeel - thin bodied with sufficient carbonation. About right for the style.
Overall - Not a terribly memorable beer by any measure with some earthy hops and melon to close that's about as unique as Bear Runner gets. Nonetheless there's nothing here to actively advocate against it, so take it for what it is... a passable blonde ale.

473 mL can from the LCBO; there's a canning date stamp, but it got smudged somewhere along the line. Served barely chilled.
Pours a hazy golden-yellow colour, topped with one finger of frothy, soapy white head that fizzles itself out over the next 90 seconds or so. A modest collar of foam is the only remnant, save for some wisps upon the surface. Butterscotch, caramel corn, grain husks and doughy biscuit on the nose, with the subtle hopping supplying suggestions of wet hay and earth. Not exactly unappealing.
Kind of a buttery beer, which is not something I really look for in a blonde. Bready grains and buttery dough impart a sweet aspect to the flavour, which the grassy hops that follow attempt to counter. Finishes with an odd sourdough-like flavour, but it doesn't linger. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that provides a gentle bite; feels smooth and a little slick on the palate. Easy enough to drink, but there's plenty of room for improvement.
Final Grade: 3.24, a C+. Bear Runner Blonde Ale is a pretty mundane offering. I understand that most blondes lean in that direction, but this particular one also has too much diacetyl for me to recommend it to other BAs with much enthusiasm. It's nothing to go out of your way for, but it's still nice to see that not only does North Bay have a brewery, but that I can also find one of its beers in SW Ontario! I might give this one another sampling if I encounter a fresh flat.

Pours a slightly hazy gold colour. Large fluffy long lasting head. A harsh bitter taste is present today, not at any other times with this beer. Which usually is very good blonde ale. Good mouthfeel with just enough carbonation.
