Review from notes. Served fairly cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $5.50 CDN. Listed at 9.2% ABV. Nitro dosed.
Appearance - Super dark brown, appearing black in the glass. A big tan head of almost two fingers is poured and lasts for a medium duration. Some sticky lacing at the rim of the glass.
Smell - Coffee, coffee and more cold brew coffee. One note and done pretty well.
Taste - Lots more coffee, cold brew coffee and reasonably bitter, but not an assault on the tongue. A little green pepper at the end of the sip which isn't ideal. Some booziness in there.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied, modest carbonation and some heat at the back of the throat via the booze and green pepper flavor. A definite sipper, this isn't the easiest one to drink but works with the flavors well enough.
Overall - If you love coffee this is probably a good brew for you as it nails the Imperial Coffee Stout brief to a T. However beyond that, I don't find a lot of depth and less nuance than other big stouts, so while Hades is an effective coffee brew, it's not one I'm going to be constantly on the lookout for for repurchase. Still worth a try.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 2021, listed at 9.2% and served slightly chilled. An imperial coffee stout, you say? Don't mind if I do.
This beer is "nitro dosed" according to the label, so I poured it like a nitro beer: the results were one finger of bubbly, soapy, light tan-coloured head seated atop a jet black body. Within five minutes or so, the head is reduced to a creamy collar and thin cap; no lacing yet, but it leaves behind plenty as the level drops. Roasted coffee beans and espresso on the nose, along with sweeter notes of caramel and molasses; suggestions of raisin-y dark fruits, cocoa and hazelnut as well. The alcohol is detectable, but it doesn't smell 'boozy', certainly not for the style.
Big cold brew coffee flavours right off the bat - almost no sweetness at first, just burnt beans and espresso. Bready malts, chocolate and date fruit join the mix shortly thereafter, but the coffee runs roughshod over most everything else, through to the bittersweet finish, at least. The aftertaste is moderately boozy, with lingering hints of chocolate, dried fruits and cold brew coffee. Medium full in body, with low carbonation that softly agitates the surface of the tongue; feels smooth and a bit oily, with great drinkability considering its strength.
Final Grade: 3.79, a B+. New Ontario's Hades is a boilerplate imperial stout helped along by its generous dosage of vitamin C - and no, there's no citrus in this beer: I'm talking about the coffee (an important daily essential nutrient if there ever was one). Honestly, the coffee kind of overpowers the underlying stout, which is fine if you enjoy the stuff as much as I do... but as imperial stouts go, it's a one-note affair, lacking the depth, intensity and sheer luxuriousness of its superiors. On the other hand, taken as a coffee beer, it's above average, so I could see myself returning if the mood strikes.

Look: Pours black with a tawny one finger head. The head has good retention still showing some promise at 5 minutes.
Smell: Dark coffee and nuts.
Taste: Cold pressed black coffee. No creme in this coffee. Hints of bakers chocolate, but the cold pressed black coffee dominates the whole experience. The boozy is well hidden, peaking through as the beer warms. Bitter through the middle and end.
Feel: The beer has a sparkly mouth feel considering the style. Almost like a mineral water. Most noticable at the front of the mouth.
Might find of sweet spot for fans of black cold roasted coffee, but for those craving a little sweetness in thier stout you won't find it here. It earns a strong B -
