Tropical hops abound in this hazy session IPA
We dipped down under to bring you something wilder. This hazy session IPA is dry-hopped with Enigma and Galaxy for loads of peach, passionfruit, citrus and berry hop character. Wilder looks like sunshine and finishes silky smooth and refreshing.
FOOD PAIRINGS: Thai coconut curry, chicken tikka, havarti. 32 IBU.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jun 5 2025 and served barely chilled.

The marketing spiel on the back label states that this session IPA "looks like sunshine", but I must disagree. It's actually a murky, muddy, pale greyish-apricot colour - so, maybe they meant sunshine as viewed through a cloud of smog in the San Fernando Valley, circa 1975. Snark aside, it's topped with one finger of soapy white head that recedes within a couple of minutes, leaving behind a creamy, sudsy collar and a thin cap; there's also some spotty lace deposition. Fruity aroma comprised of passion fruit, mandarin orange and peach, with hints of blackcurrant, honeydew melon and papaya.

Mellow flavour profile driven largely by fruity hops, supported by wheaty, bready pale malt sweetness. I'm getting melon, orange and stone fruit initially, followed by hints of passion fruit and berries by mid-sip. Muddled finish of stone & tropical fruits with a touch of pithy bitterness, fading into a relatively dry aftertaste. Medium in body, with low carbonation and a smooth, fluffy-soft mouthfeel; surprisingly fulfilling for a session IPA. A solid session ale.

Final Grade: 3.73, a B grade. This review started off on the wrong foot, but by the end I was enjoying my glass of Second Wedge's Wilder. The fruity hop flavours and aromas are pleasant, but the mouthfeel is probably its strongest facet: despite being only 4.5%, the oats and wheat add to its body quite a bit, making for a satisfying summer sipper that I'd happily drink again. If you enjoy lighter NEIPAs, this is totally worth a try.
