16 oz draft

Pours just over a finger of tan head into a willi glass. Head is pillowy and frothy. Body is almost more copper than it is red, some orange hues are here for sure. Clarity is relatively high for a red. Carbonation looks very high. Overall it is unorthodox, but it looks good so far.

The nose is full of jam, very fruity for a red. While fruity, it's not over the top sweet or malty. Some bitter hips hiding in here, but not much. Overall it smells fine, but the nose is not huge.

Flavor is a little rough around the edges. Just not a lot going on through the majority of the palate, finishing with a rough, mostly characterless bitterness. Bitterness lingers for a bit. Not sweet or malty at all for the most part, which is fine. A little sweetness at the end. This is ok, not bad. The bitterness is not unwelcome, but it needs a supporting cast to be considered good. Overall it's just ok, it needs more flavors to really make it.

Mouthfeel is good for a red, body and carbonation are both about medium. It's body helps make it a little more sessionable and well rounded. The lingering bitterness is acceptable.

The drinkability overall is fine, not extremely drinkable because of the rough bitterness, but it's ok overall.

The appearance turned out very nice. Head retention was slightly above average. Lacing was nice and thick all the way down the glass.

I really like hoppy reds, but this is just lacking too much in every other area. Again, this is ok overall, just not quite there.
