Hazy, deep reddish brown, slim, off-white head, leaving lace.
Bold, bright and spicy aromatics. Mostly malty with citric hop essence popping through. Grassy & grapefruit-y.
In the mouth: Grassy, citrus-y, bittersweet hop flavor takes hold first, dominating the palate. Smooth & malty, with a never ending hoppy kick. Delicious.
Damn good beer, and you can drink it. I'd suggest that you do.

Have been meaning to make it up to the brewery/tap room and haven't been able, but saw some crowlers at 44th and France, so I decided to take a flyer. No date stamp, but I'm assuming it is fairly fresh. Into a nonic, pours a thick hazy caramel amber with a 2 finger off-white head, decent retention and decent lacing. Nose promises some almost overripe citrus (pineapple, grapefruit) but no rind, some round earthy almost catty Citra notes, too, and a little bread. Taste isn't as citrusy as the nose promises, with some tea-like notes to go with the oat/cereal that dominates the back half...the tea is a little surprising and don't really fit for me. Fairly full body for the low abv, and it is quite smooth with good carbonation to boot, so that's nice. But there's no bite whatsoever, and with that hop bill, I keep expecting it. All in all, this makes for a decent pint...definitely sessionable

modist's been getting some love on here and i found it in a store. seemed a good idea. crowlers can be kind of fun, i guess.
that's where the fun went away. maybe i should have read the can, but they promised deep complexity and i would totally have disagreed.
it poured nicely - hazy orange with a thick, white head that dissipated quickly. smells of oranges and tastes of oranges and i really don't like citra so i'm kind of wishing i had opted for something else. mouth is a bit fuller from the oats, but still pretty much a one trick pony.
it's not bad. it's just there.

Poured from a crowler purchased at Top Ten Liquor in SLP. No date. Pours a dark, hazy amber with a finger of head that settled to a thin cap. Moderate amount of lacing is left down the glass. Huge citrus aroma with notes of orange, grapefruit, and pineapple. Hops dominate the flavor which is not surprising considering, as stated on the can, "made with over 50% oats". Not much malt to carry the load. Flavors of orange, or rather tangerine, grapefruit, and a touch of lemon. The body is where you expect the oats to play their part, and they do. It is not a big, full body, but it is extremely smooth and nicely carbonated. But with the lack of malt it falls away all too quick. Interesting take on the session IPA and it offers more than just "hop water" but I would of wanted a little bit more depth in flavor and body.

Poured a slightly hazy, golden yellow color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of citrus and pine. A sweet citrusy flavor with a touch a caramel and piney bitterness. This is a very smooth finish.

Pours a slight hazed tea color with a off white head. White fruit and oatst in the smell. A light hoppy fruity front with with cereal oats and citrus hops . light mouth feel with medium carbonation. Modist brews IMO afe getting better this one was good and drinkable.

Aroma of Citra and Amarillo - very pungent. Taste also has the strong grapefruit, orange and tropical notes from the hops. The massive oat bill (50%+) leads to a stronger cereal flavor than typical but also makes this 4.8% abv ridiculously creamy and fuller bodied. So while the oats may have a mixed impact on the flavor, it is amazing how it transforms a Session Ale into something so seemingly strong.

a really super high oat percentage on the mash here, they have a special mash filter which allows for such things, but they seem to still be in a bit of a figuring it all out mode, this is only okay. its darker than expected for such a high oat ratio, i though it would be paler. it has an almost caramel color, and a short patchy airy head. smells less rich and sweet and earthy than oats usually do in darker ales, instead its a clean cereal thing, somewhat muddled, oatmeal starchy, less interesting than it should be. the taste is like that too, a little burnt even almost, starchy again, and kind of underflavored for what it is. i though the same thing about the excessively high rye bill beer they make too, it just seems to need a little more grain balance in it. in any event, there is plenty of the classic oat body, and the slightly richer color had some amount of toasted sweetness to it. bittering hops only it appears. good not great, its a cool idea and obviously a sexy technology, but i would like to see it in the hands of a more accomplished brewer, just for perspective. not bad, but definitely still evolving, both as a brewery and as a beer...

L: Pours amber brown with a slight haze from a 750 ml crowler producing a persistent 3” cream to light tan foam cap that produces splotchy lace. The cap takes 4 minutes to reduce to 1/3 its original size.
S: Oatmeal, citrus, spice, some light toast, a little earthiness.
T: Toats features white toast, oats, and citrus. It starts with some malty sweetness but then the grains dry it out on the finish and introduce some grainy spice flavors. A moderate hop bitterness emerges in the middle and lingers long into the finish. The bitterness becomes more prominent as the beer warms.
F: Very creamy texture from the oats give it a medium to medium full body. It has medium carbonation.
O: A satiating full flavored beer.
