German Fatcap is our answer to an Octoberfest beer. A crispy malty festbier brewed with a German water profile, German malts, German hops, and German yeast – then aggresively hopped like an American IPA. Its bold hop character balances the rich malt backbone to create thick a FAT CAP of aromatic foam.

2017 notes:
To the eye: Clear, crisp, bright crimson coloring, moderately sized cap of whitish froth atop.
In the nose: Medium hop bitterness, some fruity esters, quite nicely balanced.
In the mouth: Big, beefy, malty. Bold, fruity, dry. Exceptionally clean and full-bodied. Hop bitterness is coming on strong now. Okay, I'm getting it. Marzen-Style malts, big ol' hoppitude. It's a drinkable beer that's just about to bust it's britches. I was confused, but now I like it.
Here's another Modist beer that doesn't fit any category. An ale Oktoberfest. This "German IPA" they're calling it doesn't work, sorry.

16oz can. Poured a clear, dark amber color with a large, khaki-colored head of foam. It smelled of pine, roasted malt and grasses. Very, very malty and grassy. Very odd.

Pours a clear dark copper with a thick cream colored head that lingers and leaves very good lacing. Aroma is unappealing, some malt overpowered by (lacquer thinner?), and orange rind. Flavor is orange rind and malts with some hop bite in the finish. Feel is medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Overall an odd beer from a brewery that normally puts out very nice stuff.

L: A tea colored amber liquid fills the glass permeated by streams of rapidly rising bibles that create a fat, persistent cream colored, cap
S: malts and hops hit the nose with an equal, moderate intensity featuring a blend of bread crust, fruit and dank, fresh cut wood
T: Rich malts and an assertive bitterness start the palate and lead to a dry slightly astringent finish. Hop flavor and bitterness equally balance the malt flavors.
F: The body and carbonation are medium
O: This is an interesting beer with big malt and hops. The malt is so enticing and well done that it leaves you wishing for a little more malt and a little less hop

Poured from a 16oz can into glass. No canning date found. 6.5% ABV.
Dark amber color, slightly hazy, with white head/cap, and moderate lacing.
Aroma of both the malt and the piney hops.
Taste of piney bitterness, smooth malt, not a lot of beers have this combination of flavors.
Really a full mouth feel, pleasant to drink.
Somehow the convergence of tastes works for this beer. A different take on a feistbeir. Kudos.

This beer pours a deep ruby with a good sized head. The aroma features strong notes of pine, cannabis, overripe mango, toffee, caramel, honey and violets. The flavor features a big and bitter dose of bright pine up front, with some plastic, burnt sugar, and lime zest, opening to caramel and toffee, and finishing with a drying note of brown toast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with creamy carbonation. Overall this is a pretty cool little beer - though I am not sure what is "german" about it. The hop character is thoroughly American, though I can see that the malt characteristics are tending in a oktobefest direction.
