“BRING BACK THAT KÖLSCH WITH THE SWIRLY HYPNOTIZING LABEL THING, BUT, LIKE, AGE IT IN ONE OF YOUR OAK FOEDERS AND MAKE THE LABEL COLORS IN BLACK & WHITE AND QUOTE ME IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT POST WHEN YOU DO BRING IT BACK” – nobody.

Appearance: Pours a mostly clear (75% clarity) light yellow color with a strong white head that lingers. SRM of 5. (4.00)
Aroma: Aromas upfront of yeast, grapes, some sweet lemon citrus. (3.75)
Flavor: Strong flavors of yeast and bread upfront. Quickly turns into a funky grape note. Bready in the middle. Some figs and wild yeast. Wild yeast on the finish. (3.25)
Feel: Medium-body, strong carbonation and yeast. Soft and smooth. Leans dry and clean. (3.50)
Overall: First try at this Kolsch from Modist. Modist has been making some great oak-aged lagers. This is a new one for me. Yeasty upfront. Slightly funky. Sort of misses the Kolsch notes as the wild, funky yeast overpowers here. As much as I like their oak-aging beers, this one seemed to go wrong.

Clear, light to moderate amber colored body; lively, coarse carbonation; fairly thick and sudsy head. Excellent smell combining earthy cereal grain notes with subtle suggestions of mild spice and light esters. The taste amps up the smell with the addition of a deft note of hop bitterness. Medium body; warm and silky on the palate.
Modist delivers a very enjoyable, very tasty kölsch beer.
Hard to read the canning date, but looks like 01/ 18/21.

On tap. White head. Lace. Slightly cloudy straw yellow.
Grassy, crisp, bready/biscuity, clean. Light citrus. Not picking up a ton of oak but it has a toasted flavor to it. Very drinkable. Very well done.
