From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Slightly hazed yellow, good head.

Smell: Sweet breadiness, hint of smoke.

Taste: Light smokiness to start, then nice breadiness mid-taste to finish. Light bodied.

Overall: I didn't know Modist had a smoked beer, then a friend brought one to a bonfire and I took one home to review. Not overly smoky, kind of an introductory smoked beer. Enough smoke to know it's there but not too much. Comparable to Scherlenkerla's helles but not quite as good.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Clear, straw colored body. One finger of bright white head, settles back slightly to a creamy, small bubble cap. Sheets of lacing on the non-drinking side of the glass.
Aroma has a definite smokey component from the smoked malts. There are bready malts, and coming through it all are some spicy hops.
Taste is pure white bread malt, with an accompanying aspect of smoke. Floral and spicy hops. All flavors remain balanced in the aftertaste.
Delicate bready malt flavor and delicate smoke. Not robustly smokey as found in Hammerheart beers. Completely refreshing and utterly quaffable.
Crisp and clean mouthfeel.

Pours a mostly clear golden color with a fresh thin head. Smell is light smoked malts grassy herbal and bread notes. Taste was grassy with with smoked malts some lemon grass citrus hops. Mouth feel was crisp and clean with smoke was light but present, very nicely done only drawback was the amount of smoke,

Can. White head with some lace. Clear dark golden color:

The smoke is there but it’s lighter than a German rauch beer. Toasted malts and biscuit notes. Grassy/zesty hops. Earthy.

Light bodied. Crisp and clean. Light smoke on the finish.

Really solid offering from Modist. On point with their lager game. Would like more smoke though.

2021 version on cask

Soft and smooth. Little more smoke this year. Bread and biscuit. Faint honey dipped toasted crackers. Well done.
