Appearance: Arrives clear and goldenstraw colored with a thick two fingers of foam on top; streaks of lacing linger
Smell: Bready aromatics with a grassy aspect
Taste: Bready flavors forwad with a touch of lemon; the grassy hops make a statement, through the middle, and the finish is crisp and clean
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation
Overall: Some unusual twists here with the hop selection and oak aging; those elements didn't leave as much of an impression as I thought they might

At the tap room, into a tumbler. Clear pale brassy gold, nice pill white head that subsides quickly but leaves some nice lacing. Nose promises some earthy hops, faint citrus. Taste: Biscuity and pilsner bready maltiness, along with the hops that turn out to be a little more floral than earthy. Might be a little lemongrass in there, too. This is very smooth: very little hoppy bite or liveliness. But it has a really nice depth to it, and some woody notes, too. Moderate body/mouthful, and not really crisp on the finish, but a little dry. Quite enjoyable.

Aroma is bread/malts and spicy hops. The flavor is fruit, malts/grains, slight toffee and a mildly sweet/mostly smooth/hint of sugar/tart/funk finish.

Overall: A very drinkable German pilsner here that showcases earthy malt flavors well. Earthy, woodsy, grassy, with a crackery, cereal malt flavor. It imparts a croissant and cereal flavor that sort of reminds me of Captain (Cap'n) Crunch cereal. All with an earthy twist to it from the oak barrels. Still drinking relatively dry and bitter. Fantastic stuff here. I will try to pick it up again. (Rating: 4.16)

Crowler of the new version and it is much better. Clear golden color. White head with lace.
I thought the other was interesting for the style, but this actually tastes like a pils. Earthy and grassy hops. Biscuit and bready malts. Faint citrus. Floral notes. Smooth and easy drinking with a dry/slightly bitter finish.
