It’s come to this: anything with “West Coast IPA” on the label I’ll buy at least a single of. They’ve become rarer than riding cats around here. 16 oz. can.
The pour is a dull, opaque gold; not the WC IPA look of yore but not OJ, either. Smells like a NE IPA, a rich, sweet fruitiness of a type or combo that I can’t identify.
Reptilian Elite might be from the West Coast of Crete, but it’s parsecs from a classic West Coast IPA. Perhaps Modist believes everyone who remembers this style is senile or dead? There’s a heavy sweetness, like a melon plant crossed with a sugar cane plant. Zero bitterness, but there is some decaying wood & swamp gas. I’m going to plow through a couple ounces of this & call the game.
Nothing San Diego or Seattle about this. At. All. Reviewed to ‘style’ this is an abysmal failure & the actual taste isn’t much better. Drain, beer. Beer, drain.

On tap. White head.
Slightly cloudy burnt orange gold.
Earthy, floral, hoppy. Grapefruit citrus. Has some resin notes but not very dank or weedy. Some perfume mixed in.
Solid ipa. Very unique.

Pours a dark amber with a thick head.
Smells dank and luscious like a West Coast should be. Scents of orange peel, pine, and flowers.
The taste did not have that same level of complexity. It’s very sweet up front with a toasted, caramel malt finish. Rich feel but I didn’t enjoy the taste.
Picked this up in a can from the brewery—no date, but drank same day.
