Dark brown, but crystal clear, with good carbonation; a backlight reveals a reddish brown color. 1 1/2 inch tall, thick head, light tan, with OK retention and leaving attractive lacing as it does fade.

Roasted malts dominates the aroma, but there is also a breadiness/graininess to it.

Flavor brings the roasted malts, dark bread, and a nice flavor something like an unsweet caramel (if that makes any sense). The initial taste begins with the roasted malts and bread, with the caramel (perhaps a touch of fruit-like flavor as well) in the middle, nutty, no bitterness at all, with a fairly dry and smooth finish. The aftertaste retains the caramel, dark bread, and nutty flavors.

The mouth feel is flat and thin.

Overall, a nice-tasting nicely done traditional bock. Another local traditional bock, well-brewed, is always welcome. Recommended.

Dark, smells like chocolate. Tastes is mostly chocolate with a wealth of flavors underneath. Very tasty but too sweet

Appearance: Pour a clear, dark amber and brown color with a moderate and quick light tan head. SRM of 17-19. (4.00)

Aroma: Moderate aromas of milk chocolate, leather, beef jerky, roasted malts, and some faint coffee roast. (3.75)

Flavor: Moderate flavors of chocolate upfront. Some roasted barley malt, beef jerky, leather and beefy flavors. Faint coffee roast. Some beefy notes and coffee roast linger through the end. (4.00)

Feel: Lighter bodied. Moderate carbonation for a roasted malt finish, but dry and clean finish. Hides the alcohol very well. (4.25)

Compared to Surly Ghost Empire 4/17/22: Pours a darker color, stronger aromas and head. More roasted malt, leather, chocolate. Less brown bread crust, toasted malt, and nuts. Larger and sweeter.

Overall: A pretty good dark lager. Not sure I would call it a bock as I don't get enough bready flavors. Still, get nice chocolate, roasted malt, and even some beefy and leathery flavors. Finishes relatively dry and clean and hides the alcohol. I'd give this beer a thumbs up. (Rating: 3.97)

Can. Khaki tan head. Copper brown.

Caramel, burnt sugars, molasses, toasted bready malts, some figs/apple skins. Very solid bock. Smooth and creamy. Almost tastes like it was poked.

Drank from 16oz cans.
Look: Brown body that is transparent brown when held to the light. Nice tall thick fluffy head the leaves plenty of lacing.
Smell: lightly roasted grain.
taste: Letting this one warm up is best. A toasted somewhat roasty grain/bread. Some caramel , micro hint of dark fruit. maybe a micro hint of smoke. Not really all that sweet, Has bitter elements towards the finish.
feel is ok, maybe a little on the thin side.
Solid beer I will give it a 3.89/5
