Somewhat better than the regular Breffix the tart blueberry seems real not artificial with notes of coffee sweet molasses and maple syrup. The sweet fruity aspect even covered up the cumbersome bitterness the base beer has. Body is spot on the base no too watery slick light to medium easy to quaff down. I definitely will be sure to pick up more if I can this is a really stellar blueberry stout

Pours black with faint hues of blue/purple in the light. There is about two fingers of foamy head. Abundant lacing. Nose is of blueberry, coffee, and molasses (likely the result of the maple and brown sugar combo). Taste leans sweeter with coffee and blueberry the dominating profiles but play off each other. Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated, creamy, almost silky in texture. Finish gives way to chocolate, vanilla, and maple notes, trace bitterness, but the blueberry returns and lingers on the backend. I'm impressed for not being a fruited stout person.

Blueberry Second Breffix from Modist Brewing. Received from @bbtkd 27/03/25 in a LIF associated with BS BIF #2. 12 fl oz can. Reviewed 06/04/25 (Review 3495). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “12/05/24.” Stored in at 39 degrees F at home: served at 55.9 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 58.3 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Deep Brown (SRM 30), nearly opaque.
Body – Deep Brown (SRM 30), opaque. Under direct light, same, but a fine precipitate is visible through the glass. When rear-lite, red-amber at the bottom edge.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.3 cm, aggressive center pour), biscuit, high density, average retention. Drops to a 0.5 – 0.8 cm crown fed by aggressive carbonation and a complete rocky cap.
Lacing – Fair. Arch of tiny to near-microscopic bubbles, separated from the crown by multiple tiny islands.
Aroma – 4 – Weak roasted malt, some char. No yeast, no hops, no alcohol, no blueberry.
Flavor – 4 – Begins with coffee and char, moderately bitter. No yeast, no hops. No alcohol (10 % ABV, according to the label). Toward the end, some blueberry and maple sneak in. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Faint gastric warming.
Palate – 4 – Medium: creamy: soft but lively carbonation.
Style: Follows the style guidelines as condensed by BA.
Final impression and summation: 4 As a stout, this is good. As a blueberry stout, to my taste buds it’s lacking – blueberry sounds like a great flavor for a stout, but most breweries don’t manage to pull it off well. The coffee dominates here, followed by charred malt, with maple syrup lagging, and blueberry fading behind.

Pours jet black with a thick mocha head. Generous lacing. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, and blueberries. Flavor follows the nose, blueberries most prominent, coffee, chocolate and a faint touch of maple. Feel is medium bodied, with low carbonation. Overall, I prefer this to the original, a nice breakfast (pastry) stout that is not too sweet.

From a 12oz can:
Appearance: Black, huge head.
Smell: Strong coffee aroma, over time some blueberries arrive.
Taste: Mild sweetness, then the coffee comes in pretty strong, then followed by the blueberries. Medium-light bodied, especially for a impy stout. Finishes with the blueberries and some coffee bitterness.
Overall: Sounded like an interesting beer so I picked up a single. I suppose I thought the base beer would come through a little more but the coffee and blueberries dominated. Still a tasty beverage.

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace. It smelled of light blueberry, chocolate, coffee and maple syrup. Tasted of chocolate, coffee, sweet maple and blueberry.
