a great cream ale does not always paint a complete picture, but rather provide the canvas on which to paint your own as you appreciate one. i think this is a fine testament to that, one of the more flavorful cream ales ive had in awhile, and one that is full of room for imagination as we drink it. clear and heady, rich looking, a little more substantial than others, but crisp and clean, with an distinct lager quality about it. i pick up hints of cinnamon for a moment, then hints of fresh orange, even dry crackers from the biscuity malts in here. im sure those ingredients arent in here, but there is space for them in my head, and i think that sometimes can be the mark of a strong cream ale. not much hops going on here, but i dont really miss them, the finish is snappy and distinct enough without the bitterness they would provide. smooth and easy down with a pleasing malty aftertaste, good carbonation, a light german grain element, and a wonderful overall balance. a simple but elegant beer from these guys.
