Red Sand Ale is an American-style Red Ale that is medium bodied with bready, malty flavors and aromas. It has hop aromas of earth and spice from the late kettle Fuggle additions.
This beer is named after the “pocket” Red Sand beach in Maui. As red ales are not common to the islands of Hawaii, this is truly a “pocket” style in paradise.
Malt: 2-Row, CaraAmber, Crystal 60, Black, Vienna
Hops: CTZ (Columbus, Tomahawk, Zeus), UK Fuggle
Yeast: House Ale
32 IBU

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewing Co pint glass
A: Pours copper brown with a frothy khaki head that settles to a light layer and leaves some spotty lacing.
S: Toasty bready malt, slightly roasty, resinous, grassy, slightly herbal, faint citrus, and just a touch of toffee sweetness.
T: Toasty, slightly roasty, touch of coffee, earthy herbal notes, resinous, grassy, a little citrus zest, grapefruit and lemon, bready malt, and just a little toffee sweetness. Finishes pretty dry.
M: Medium body, moderately lively carbonation.
O: A little darker and probably a bit more bitter than your average amber, but not bad.

Oil can from the local ABC in Maui.
Pint glass. Clear, russet amber color. Cream-colored head with staying power & sticky lace.
Smells of sweet supple malt with a slight grassy edge.
Taste is good bread, light toastiness, super dry, with a pleasant zing of bitter green hippiness. Frothy turning thin. Well carved & average ABV detected.
Very easy & well done.

Appearance - Pours a deep copper red with two fingers of tan head.
Smell - grassy, piney, and earthy hops, bready malts, caramel, hint of toffee and honey, and earthy yeast.
Taste - grassy, piney, and earthy hops upfront. There is a pleasant sweetness from the malts, caramel, toffee, and honey. The earthy yeast finishes off the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with the hops and malts lingering. The bitterness of the hops and sweetness from the malts is very pleasant.
Overall - An enjoyable Irish Red that has the bitterness from the hops and sweetness from the malts. Worth a try if you travel to Maui or visit Kohola Brewing. Mahalo!

Thanks to Alex for this one.
Amber indeed. Bordering on auburn. One finger of shock white soapy head.
The aroma is big and malty but with it's fair share of hops. Toasted malts, deep raw honey in the taste with a good dose of citrus and piney hops. Dry and with lots of hop spiciness in the finish.

12 oz can from my good, small headed friend Alex. Thanks girl!
This can states it's an American Amber weighing in at 5.5%. Must have been reformed.
Gotta say, this is one beautiful looking Amber (or Irish Red for that matter). Burnt orange with fiery golden highlights and an impressive white foam head that leaves behind a good amount of thin and wispy lacing.
I'd forgotten how pleasant Amber's can smell. Simple yet full, with heavy handed caramel drizzled toast and a spicy, earthy hop finish. It just smells like a night at the pub, darts and pool competition and all.
The flavor follows to a t. The kicker here is a refined and retrained smoky, peaty dash. The scent of spicy and earthy hops has a much bigger punch in the flavor than the aroma suggests.
Sweet, smoky, spicy, bitter. Nice balance of all with an exceptionally dry and sip demanding finish. An easy drinker, but again, one that can be shared pitcher by pitcher all night over some banter and chatter.
Damn fine amber here. Doesn't quite taste the same as, but reminds me of the first time I had Fat Tire almost 15 years ago in the sense that it was unique, tasty, and excited me towards the style. Good stuff.
Mahalo.

Murky amber/brown, like weak coffee; covered by a finger of head, cream coloured, with a few minutes retention.
Not much aroma, as expected - grains, bread, lightly acidic.
Taste is malty mainly, tin, but quickly turns bitter, of citrus pith, which lingers with puckering dryness; it's bland, nothing interesting happening; medium body and carbonation, crisp, effervescent - it's a pleasant feel.
Decently crafted, but lacking character.
