Tasted at the 2003 Oregon Brewers Fest. Gold color. Medium head. Aroma is herbal, fruity and grainy. A medium bodied Kolsch. Malts are fruity and sweet. There are NO hops is this beer it is spiced with a gruit blend of lavender, grains of paradise, marsh rosemary, chamomile and mugwort. The herbs add a spicy and earthy herbal ness to the beer. Lively carbonation. Interesting beer. Crisp and bright. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Sampled at the Oregon Brewers Festival on 6/25/03...
Appearance: light straw color, pretty hazy for a Kölsch, little to no head
Aroma: an herbal fruitiness like ginger and blueberries, hint of indescript esters, a touch of grain
Flavor: a very clean flavor with not much other than the herbal qualities, slightly sweet, finish is semi-dry, slightly tart aftertaste
Mouthfeel: light body, fine carbonation, soft, easy
Overall Impression: The herbal quality reminds me of Ebulum Elderberry Black Ale (which I just tried recently). According to the OBF program, this beer was brewed with gruit instead of hops: lavender, grains of paradise, marsh rosemary, chamomile and mugwort. It's a great beer to have if you want something refreshing and quaffable, but out of the norm.
