Canned March 3rd. It's labeled as a "Heller Bock", meaning it has a lighter color than most Bocks. Nose is malty with herbal background. Feel is very nice, like it has more volume so that than even a small sip feels like a generous taste. Very malty, with a definite sweetness. Well carbonated over all. Modest 7% AB

16-ounce can purchased at John's Marketplace in Beaverton, OR. Date stamp reads "03/04/25 THE ROSENSTADT MAIBOCK IS NOW YOUR BOCK. PROST" Poured into a nonic half-pint.

Look:
The beer is a radiant amber-gold, mostly clear but displaying a light mist of haze. The off-white head quickly settles into a thin collar that disappears a few sips later. Minimal lacing.

Smell:
The nose is dry and malty and laced with floral and spicy hops. It takes on a delicate woody note as the beer warms.

Taste:
The flavor is wall-to-wall malt that leans fairly dry, with notes of toasted rustic bread, clover honey, mild tarragon, and a trace of black tea. The middle offers a pleasant sweetness which complements the deep malt character. There's a dash of peppery hops in the finish, along with a subliminal dusty wintergreen Necco wafer note. Soft malt and firm bitterness intertwine in the aftertaste.

Feel:
Medium-bodied and slightly heavy with moderate carbonation and a touch of alcohol warmth. Carbonation starts a little rough but calms quickly.

Overall:
Sweetness and bitterness are both somewhat restrained, and for the first half of the can I wished one of them would take the wheel. But the malt and hops and their interplay are so civilized that the balance really is the main point here. Rosenstadt Heller Bock is very moreish example of the style, with excellent drinkability. I look forward to trying it again soon.
