When the fresh stuff isn't in season, there's nothing wrong with picking up a few bags in the frozen food aisle. Yakima Chief Hops and Yakima Chief Ranches flash froze some fresh Citra this Fall, so we thought why not use those hops to brew up a batch of "Fresh Hop" Johnny Utah? We modeled this batch after our regular Fresh Hop Utah, using 25 lbs per bbl of flash frozen Citra to recreate this season specific brew for the colder months.
Malts - 2 Row Pale, Munich Malt
Hops - Frozen Fresh Hop Citra, Citra pellets
Yeast - English Ale Yeast

64oz growler served in a big snifter. Wife bought the growler at the brewery today.
Pours clear golden with a two finger head that dissipates slowly, leaving an ample ring climbing up the sides of the glass and a millimeter or two cap over the rest of the surface. Medium to high carbonation. Smell is fairly legit...fresh hops, but maybe with more of a hay aroma than I remember from the non-flash-frozen FH Johnny Utah. Honey and hop resin.
Taste is similar. Maybe a more relentless hop presence than the regular. Strong bitter aftertaste that I don't remember.
Mouthfeel is light, dry. Overall, very good.
