Took home this 32 fl. Oz. Crowler from the brewery on 9/7/18. A nice little visit before the Aqueous and Moe. Show at Saranac Brewery.
Woodland Farm Brewery elev. 749 ft., Marcy, NY prides itself with using primarily NY state harvested ingredients.
Pours into my Duvel Tulip looking like muddy gold and a snow-white haze in color. Very opaque in it's lighter color. Much like a hazy NE style ipa. Appears to be vety relaxed, almost cask style. Only a slight white, thin, bubbly ring of foam is seen around the peramiter.
The nose has a very funky, grainy earth aroma, pickle brine, sweet n sour fruits, wild flower honey sweetness, herbs and spices tingle the nose. Interesting and funky...heavy on the yeastie funk!
O.k soo the first sip projects the sour pickle brine flavor, also noticed in the aroma. A fermented style, pickle aroma and flavor might be from the yeast? Perhaps its an off flavor that means something odd happened here?? This was a pour straight from the tap to the can and boasts mostly 100% NY state grown ingredients. The yeast seems to maybe have relaxed too much in the two days it remained in the can?? The feel and texture also flatter out to a big degree, making it feel like cask aged, with little to no life.
Wheat, dried grass, herbs, banana and spices, light to pilsner like malt tones wanna pop out but it's simply to flat and lifeless to truely tell.
Meant to a highly drinkable and thirst quenching brew, light for hot summer days that brings a nice, earthy complexity.
