one of the better beers we had in here, a new one from what i understand, and pretty well done. it has a neat point of distinction, which is something i always look for in common styles, how does this beer stand out from the crowd? what makes it unique or special? the answer here is that its subtle and dry on the vanilla, not one of those soda syrup bombs that makes you diabetic. there is still nice vanilla flavor in here, but its not too much and it sure isnt sweet. the bitter roast and dark malts here are at least as forward as the vanilla, there is great balance with the extra ingredient, and while im not sure the base beer is the best porter out there, i appreciate the somewhat tempered use of vanilla here, it makes the beer better. it could use a little more body, and the cream aspect isnt quite there for me, but its a tasty and drinkable pint, and that counts for a lot in a style like this. i liked it in here, small and different, worth checking out if you are making your way to or through castle rock!
