This beer pours a copper color with very little head. I blame the bartender for that, but that's fine. The smell is fairly nondescript... perhaps a whiff of hops, but that's about it. The taste, again, is overshadowed by extremely strong sour notes, leaving this beer all but undrinkable. This could be an amber or a pale ale and you wouldn't know, as the flavor is masked by the sourness. The mouthfeel is about right, but honestly, it's hard to evaluate a mouthfeel of sour ESB when it tastes so far from what one might expect.
Extremely disappointing. I swear that I had this beer about this time last year and enjoyed it without the sourness.

What a difference freshness makes. At it's best, this beer is pretty decent. The main problem is its inconsistency. One sampling can be just fine, while the next can be as sour as salad dressing. It is essential to sample this(or any of O'Gara's beers)before buying. That said, this pint was full bodied and rich in flavor. It featured a nice hop bitterness coupled with a huge malt backing. If only it could be this good all the time.
