American Pale Ale Brewed with Key Lime Zest and Juice & Milk Sugar
This is round two of our Life in Technicolor series, where we explore the relationship between hop-forward beers and various citrus fruit. This beer was designed to carry the hops and citrus with strong base of barley and oats as well as a large addition of lactose or milk sugar which provides and round, full and smooth mouthfeel. We brewed this beer with a ridiculous amount of Key Lime zest and juice and an array of citrus forward hops. It's light and tropical and a welcome reprieve from this winter that doesn't seem to want to end. It's almost spring right?
Pilsner Malt, Two Row Malt, Flaked Oats, Cara-Pils, Crystal 40, Lactose Sugar
Columbus, Equinox, Citra, Zythos

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a bright glossy yellow color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Light lace ran here and there.
The aroma had the zing and the sweet of the key limes up front in a refreshing sort of way. Light sort of sweet grass came in stealthily and a light clean bready malt absorbed finely at the end.
The flavor was a moderate sweet with a nice light zesty sort of sweet floral arrangement playing with the malts. Nice aftertaste of the limes and malts, somewhat wheaty.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt great. ABV felt on par.
Overall, nice APA well worthy of coming back to but then again, I might have been more likely to down my portion quicker than I may have because of the current weather. Yes, this was a refreshing one.

I LOVED this beer. It was summer by the beach in a glass. I had it alongside a Lawson's Kiwi and much preferred this one. The lime flavor was bright and fruity but not sour, and everything was perfectly balanced. The aroma was so good, I kept smelling the beer instead of drinking it. I hope to find another before the keg is gone!
