As fruit season continues here at the brewery, we keep pushing the boundaries with new and exciting beers. We brewed this hoppy pale ale to embrace one of Andrew's favorite fruits, Cantaloupe Melon. After processing almost 40 lbs of Cantaloupes we set to brewing this beer with our standard pale ale malt build of 2-Row, Pilsner and Wheat Malts. We aggressively hopped this late in the whirlpool and dry-hopped with Simcoe and Hallertau Blanc which we feel complements the fruit addition. Since we fermented directly on melon puree with a very expressive yeast strain, you'll find notes of tropical fruit, stone fruit and juicy fruit gum. Its another summer crusher.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a bright semi-hazy yellow color with a sustaining finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a moderate pace. Not much lace, but what was there seemed to touch down to follow right on into the beer nicely.
The aroma had some cantaloupe sweetness up front, smooth and soothing rolling on into a nice clean cracker-like malt sweetness. Some pine, extra tropical sweetness and a touch of bubblegum amplified the character nicely.
The flavor brought the sweetness forward a bit more than expected as the bitterness of the pine seemed to take a backseat. Aftertaste was mainly of the sweet cantaloupe, some bubblegum, but not too much.
The mouthfeel was moderately soft with an in between sessionable to sipping quality to it. The body was between light and medium. With an even keeled carbonation, the ABV seemed to come across just as expected.
Overall, as an APA, it works, it's one I'd come back to.
