Crowler from Big Fatty's.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a superb thick dark black color with the "glub glub" sound of the beer being poured out into my glass. Nice settling tan foamy finger's worth of head, mild lace ran around the glass after dissipation.
The aroma had a rich milk chocolate, semi-fudge-like running into some dark chocolate nibs and then the maple entered stealthily but well maintained with a certain indulgent sweetness. The roastiness had a touch of sweetness to it. Some light cinnamon on the back end.
The flavor was moderately sweet throwing the maple against the milk and dark chocolate and with the roasty coffee bean portions coming for a well rounded balance of sorts. Cinnamon is there lightly. Mild aftertaste of maple, milk chocolate, dark chocolate and a touch of roast.
The mouthfeel was absolutely enthralling as there was nothing remotely sticky. One would have thought with a freshly "crowler-ed" beer that was brewed within the past week, there would have been some cloying quality, but nope, not there at all. The roastiness I believed helped this beer to level out the way it did and what an absolutely stellar feel it was.
Overall, not many imperial stouts brewed in the state of Vermont I can say are as good as this beer is. Absolutely excellent job, Andrew and company!
