Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black color with a thin cap of an eggshell white foamy head. This swiftly slid off to leave just a wisp of lace.
The aroma had some piney to sweet crisp grassy and lemony bittersweetness. Some roasty to subtle crisp coffee beans and a light bittersweet dark chocolate beans. Touch of wheat ever so slight on the back end.
The flavor mixes all of those prior mentioned aromas together bittersweet then adding in that extra toasty and roasty coffee appeal. Mild aftertaste of pine and coffee beans.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a steady sipping quality about it. Good carbonation and ABV. Nice piney grip on the finish, more bitterness than expected but I liked it.
Overall, as an imperial black ale this absolutely works! Well done Andrew and I would love to have again.
