A full-bodied, easy-drinking American Porter. Dark and robust with a lingering finish. We taste bittersweet chocolate, espresso drinks, and campfire stories.

Nice mahogany-red color, but clear, not hazy.
Creamy light brown head.
Nice mouth feel.
Rosary smell.
Tastes almost like a stout, but very good roasted malt with overtones of coffee, chocolate.
Best beer I tasted today.

16oz can (purchased Ludlow, VT)
Poured into standard pint glass
Pours beautifully dark with a medium, tan head. Smell is nice and chocolatey with a hint of raspberry, but dissipates a little quicker than I'd like. (It's hard with a porter to achieve that rich smell once the head has gone, so the rating here is "by the style" in reflecting that.) Tastes substantially of chocolate with noticeable fruit in its thick front end, then gives way to a mild but very pleasant char. Excellent American porter, basically a perfect "cozy up to the fire" beverage. Which I think I'll now do with the rest of this one.

Can. Almost back with lasting ring and island and some lace. Coffee chocolate aroma with subdued fruit. Medium-heavy sweetness maple syrup chocolate with very little yeasty fruitiness and medium woody earthy cinnamon coffee bitterness. Full body and creamy especially for style but this is a real "robust" porter, not a traditional English brown porter. Excellent, and I've been picky about porters lately.

On tap at Vermont Tap House.
The appearance was a beautiful dark brown close to black color topped by a very nice looking eggshell white foamy finger's worth of head. Mild lace, nothing sticky.
The aroma had a wonderful blend of sweet milk chocolate and dark chocolate dancing with small roasty coffee bean notes and dark toast.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side centering around the milk chocolate and some light dark chocolate tones. Not much bitterness comes across but a gentle roast does present a very nice blend while barely allowing any aftertaste. What was there seemed somewhat milky smooth.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied, perhaps just a touch above closer to full and having a very nice sessionability about it. Wonderful smoothness and leads into a superb finish of milk chocolate and dark chocolate weaving into each other with some dryness but faint and a light stickiness.
Overall, damn nice porter, could be construed as an English one depending upon who you talk to but nonetheless a well worthy one to definitely have again during these colder months. Fabulous job, Andrew and gang!
