Pours black black black with a foamy beige head. This is my kind of stout. I don’t like the chocolate/coffee that some stouts boast. But I do detect an unusual aftertaste, not a bad one just something weird.

473 mL tallboy from Superstore; listed at 7.0%. Canned Oct 2 2019 and served barely chilled.
Pours dark cola brown with ruby red highlights, topped with one finger of dark tan-coloured head that steadily falls apart over the next several minutes. A creamy collar lives on, with a modest swath of lace painted just above it; together they encircle a patchy layer of film upon the surface. Fairly sweet on the nose, with brown sugar and molasses coming through alongside hints of milk chocolate, cocoa and coffee. Somewhat roasty, with an earthy, herbal aspect to it as well.
A solid-tasting stout: it starts things off a little sweet, with molasses, red licorice candy and chocolate eventually giving up ground to roasted malt, prune and just a touch of vanilla. Things take a sharp turn towards the tail end of the sip, with coffee grounds, an herbal, earthy bitterness and a hint of spiciness coming through; these bitter, roasted, herbal flavours carry on into the aftertaste, which has a mildly boozy warmth to it. Medium-full in body, with moderately low carbonation levels that gently brush against and froth up on the palate - feels fairly smooth and soft from start to finish. Good drinkability, but considering its strength I figure two cans would be enough for anyone.
Final Grade: 4.07, an A-. 8 Foreign Exchange Stout was pretty darn tasty, so I'm sure I'll return to it again. This is one of those cases where I find it hard to judge the beer based on style alone, mostly because I could easily count the number of export stouts I've had on one hand (with a thumb to spare). That limited experience had me expecting a sweeter, boozier experience vs. a typical stout, but that's not really what I've got here... I'd say it's actually a bit more bitter than a lot of stouts, and the alcohol doesn't figure in strongly, either. At the end of the day, I liked it quite a bit, so I see no need to quibble over the specifics when I could just as easily say 'recommended' and leave it at that.

Enjoyed fresh from the brewery in March. Pours six month old oil from yer car engine black. Thick, viscous molasses blens with coffee nose to deliver a car mechanic worthy brew. Rich flavour, nose, and finish makes this one a keeper. Run, and enjoy.
