Perhaps THE beer to have inspired the creation of Stockyards Brewing Co., our Black IPA is modestly roasted with a complex blend of light and dark malt character complemented by Columbus, Chinook, and New Zealand Pacific Jade hops.

12oz can. No dating information found.
Dark brown colored body, with a ruby back lit edge. One thin finger of tan head, which slightly subsides to a full cap and high, clinging ring. Leaves behind large lacing webs.
Aroma of roasted malts with a little char, sweet chocolate, and pine resin.
Taste is initially smooth and sweet and then gets bitter and a little harsh. Flavor is mainly roasted malts with a charred edge, Other flavors are chocolate malt (sweet) and evergreen resin (biting and vegetal). All exist in the aftertaste but get toned down.
Mouthfeel is a little thin, but there is some stickiness, too. Hops do not deliver much for bitterness. Excellent carbonation.
Dominated by the roasted malt and char. Too little of the citrus and resiny hops. Makes some beautiful lacing on the glass.

Pours black with two fingers of khaki foam. Aroma is roasty malts with heavy sticky, resiny hops behind. A mild caramel note adds some texture between the dark malts and sticky, old school hops. Flavor profile is bold sticky hops, giving resin and herbal notes. Heavy roasty malts. Harsh finish from biting hops. Mouth feel is medium-thick with a fuzzy, light effervescence that makes it nearly crisp. Overall, sticky old school hops loaded up alongside dark, roasty malts.

Poured out a jet black color with a small, tan head of bubbly foam. It smelled of chocolate and roasted malts. A touch of resiny pine aromas, too. It tasted of bitter piney hops with a nice chocolate and toffee backbone. Some sweet caramel, too. It was medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

not a bad beer right here, a little different than the way they usually flow, but i liked it rather well. this place is awesome too, great vibe, and i think good things are coming in terms of the beer, but they are still very new. a little murky and thin this one looks, without a ton of head on it. the aroma is pretty intense though, and i like that, black pepper and spicy vegetal hops, chocolate malt more than deep roast but a little of that charred low end too, and a mild piney element later on thats very attractive. the mix of the spicy hops and the very bitter dark malt is great, makes this somewhat intensely flavored, and its good, it just needs a little cleaning up. the feel is thin, and there is a little sediment here, yeast or hop bits im not sure, and i dont quite think the dark malts and roasted barley are in ideal proportion, but they arent way off either. this is a really tough style to do well, and i think the flavors are there, but more body is needed, more carbonation would be nice, and a little more nuance would set it off. on its way to being something quite delicious i think...
