This is my first review ever. Very good looking purple striped 16oz can with a mysterious, glowing-eyed Oracle babe on the front. “She’s Always Watching” it states, under the description: “Blonde Ale w Earl Grey Tea, Orange Peel & Lactose.” She looks like someone from a D&D module. But this isn’t an art review...
Excited to try another Laughing Monk creation...
Nice pour into a chilled pint glass with some left over for later...
Look: Unlike the ominous oracle on the can, this beer is a cheerful golden blonde, very pretty color, and a mostly clear, slightly foggy texture. There’s a skinny finger of fluffy egg shell white head which vanishes within a couple minutes.
Smell: Unlike what is advertised, this beer sports a Peachy, Bergamont, Bready, and Whipped cream scent- subtly citrusy.
Taste: Unlike the smell but true to its description, it first tastes like lemon cookies, then delivers a robust Earl Grey tea finish with hints of orange rind. Lovely smooth, creamy and sweet finish. Mildly complex and not bad at all.
Feel: Solid thick and creamy mouth feel, followed by a surprisingly cheerful effervescence, a really great carbonation in the middle, then an unexpected oily aftertaste that lingers for a while.
A fairly layered construction.
Overall, Prophetess is a good looking, fun tasting beer with lots of twists and turns and happy little surprises, like a fun labyrinth at the Renaissance Faire. Honestly not crazy about the tenacious aftertaste and I prefer beers with good long lasting head, but that’s just me. I’d have it again, no doubt.
Laughing Monk creations are never boring.
Nice work, guys
