Who needs the raspberry syrups when you have access to copious amounts of the actual berries to give a German-styled Gose depth, character and charm but without the syrupy sweetness that altered the original Leipzig sour and spice beer. And when you have the brewing prowess of Narrow Gauge the Gose style just got an upgrade.
Pouring a foggy and peachy mauve, the Raspberry Meersalz builds a softly pink stained froth. A juicy and tart scent of red berries decorate the nose along with notions of lemonade, rose wine and a gentle drift of citrus, burlap and sea air. But then the sweetness releases firm impressions of saltwater taffy, pastry tartlet and sourdough early in taste.
As the sour and wheaten ale splashes the middle palate, the radiant juiciness of raspberries share hard candy proportions with a achingly succulent jammy sweetness. But then the bracing sourness comes back with a crabapple, lime, lemon, gooseberry, white grape sourness. The rounded salinity and perfumy spice of coriander brings the sourness of ale and the copious raspberry flavors together seamlessly.
Medium bodied for a sour ale, the off-dry flavors carry a tremendous sense of culinary art as balance to the brazen acidity that threaten to batter the palate. But a medium quick finish leaves a trail of raspberry juices and damp burlap in its wake.

Poured from a can dated 7/22/19 into a stemmed goblet. Pours a gorgeous opaque reddish purple, definitely the color of raspberry. Thick pink head that dissipates fairly quickly with nice lacing. Smells of jammy sweet fruit. Full bodied. Lightly tart. More sweet raspberry with some bready notes on the finish. Fantastic.
