Equally as noteworthy as their Raspberry Meersalz, who needs any fruit syrups syrups when you have access to copious amounts of passionfruit to give this German-styled Gose the depth, character and charm but without the sweetness that altered the original Leipzig sour and spice beer. And when you have the brewing prowess of Narrow Gauge the Gose style gets a major tropical upgrade.
Pouring a foggy canary yellow, the Passionfruit Meersalz builds a stark white mesh froth. A succulent and souring scent of tropical fruit tease the nose along with strong impressions of lemonade, white wine and the same gentle drift of citrus, burlap and sea air of other Meersalz varieties. But then the sweetness build impressions of saltwater taffy, pastry tartlet and sourdough on the early palate.
As the sour and wheaten ale splashes the middle palate, the radiant juiciness of passionfruit share hard candy proportions with a succulent sun-kissed sweetness. But then the bracing sourness counters with a crabapple, lime, lemon, gooseberry, white grape sourness. The rounded salinity and perfumy spice of coriander brings the sourness of ale and the copious passionfruit flavors together effortlessly for the late palate.
Medium light bodied for a sour ale, the near dry flavors carry a tremendous sense of culinary art as an offset to the brazen acidity that threaten to dominate the taste. But a medium quick finish leaves a trail of tropical fruit juices and damp burlap closely behind.
