Oh gosh what a travesty this "beer" is. Not carbonated at all, smells mostly like farts (honestly!) and tastes just as bad. Big waste of money. Metal Monkey should invest in some QA because whatever this is is a trainwreck.

2017 version Pours thick black like motor oil with no head, no ring, no lacing.

Smells like bourbon, dark malt, and dark chocolate.

The taste is bourbon, malt, some bitter chocolate, and a bit of raisin. It's very bitter on the end.

The mouthfeel is very smooth and thick but almost no carbonation. The lack of carbonation seriously detracts from the beer.

This is a unique beer with really nice flavors, but the lack of carbonation makes it difficult to really enjoy.

I had the base beer of this the only time I was at the brewery, and I remember it being the highlight of the night, as it was easily the smoothest 12% ABV stout I had ever had. The barrel aged version is maybe the same in terms of just being a super smooth beer. Not much to look at – almost no carbonation, no head, and no lacing, so appearance is definitely its weakest link . Smell is boozy barrel and roasty malt. Taste is outstanding. Tangy burn of the barrel blends well with a medium malt presence, with notes of vanilla, oak, and booze. The feel is very good, bordering on great. Other than appearance, this is where it could use improvement. While it is super smooth and an extremely easy sipper, it has a slight thin oiliness. If it was a bit thicker, thiscould be absolutely amazing. As it is, it is only outstanding. I think it is grossly under rated on this thread, but I can see how some might think it's too weak. I personally would recommend it, and I was super happy as well as surprised to see it at my favorite beer store.

Had a similar experiece to a reviewer below. Poured it hard and there was no head, tasted flat. An overall good flavor profile, a touch of booziness but didn't seem like too much. Not worth the price I paid. I will age the other bottle I have for about a year and see if it improves. If so, I'll edit my review.

I'm pretty sure I had a bad bottle, poured it like a madman and there was absolutely zero head and it tastes kind of flat.

Nice stark black with a light and airy but large tan foam head.

Smell is chocolate, cola, bourbon and toast and taste is nuts, chocolate, hot bourbon, with a nice roast and a full frothy soft mouthfeel.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Had 12/10/16.

Pours dark, near black, opaque and thick looking, with no head and a hint of lacing. Smells of dark roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, cocoa, bourbon, oak, some molasses and a little smoke. Really smells great. The taste leads with the bourbon- not overpowering, not quite as roasty malts, chocolate, cocoa, light coffee, raisins, more molasses than the nose, light caramel. Tastes great, too. Very smooth, solid full body, good level of carbonation.

A really top notch RIS, a big effort from Metal Monkey. Tons of flavor, great aroma. Well worth seeking when it's around, on tap or in the bottle. Have one more bottle that we'll let age for a while.

Quite a bit different from non barrel aged version. Good amount of flavor from barrels. Not hot though. Changes character of beer considerably. Less "stoutiness" present. This is no knock though. Just different. Nice offering.

Taste: Deep, dark, malty, complex blend of of three different aged barrels; Heaven Hills, Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. and blended them all back together at the end to create Barrel Aged Asmodeus. I got some warm alcohol notes with a stick molasses mouth-feel. Aroma was malty and bourbon barrel woody to the nose. Black, opaque, with a tan nice lace to the glass. Full body. 60 IBUs.
I will open a bottle bomber a year from now and see whats might change.
