my first from these guys, had to pick this up when i saw it, love saison, love vermont, love the packaging, love the price. turned out to be a great buy, this really is a fantastic introduction to this brewery for me, super interesting beer on the fermentation side, incredibly drinkable, rustic and funky, i love the fermentation profile, maybe a saison strain and some brett working together, as this has both old world french saison type esters but also more of a farmy funk to it, very agricultural and sort of organic to me too, and well done on the intangibles here, there is a light medium body with some grain texture to it from the wheat, the beer overall is bone dry, and its fully effervescent in terms of carbonation. i get some light spiciness here, some from the yeast maybe, a white pepper note there, but also an earthy side to the spice i get, like maybe a pinch of rye was added to the mash or something, its got subtle complexity all through it and it changes a little for me on every sip. its really dialed in, alive on the palate, and full of cool wrinkles, like parts of it hint at oak, other parts red apples in the fall, still at another moment its almost vinous. love the ferment on this, how unique and distinctive it is, and frankly i am downright eager to try some of their other stuff after this one. very impressive, super drinkable, really fairly priced for how good it is, yum!
