Gem clear amber with one and a half inches of loose, off-white head. The head fades to a thick blanket after only a few minutes. Islands of lace dapple the wall of a Cisco fisheye pint glass.
The aroma is spicy, with herbs and slight floral notes. Dustiness takes over fairly quickly.
The flavor is fairly neutral. After checking the can date, this one is a disappointing six months old. The promised caramel and walnuts are noticeable, although faint. Tartness is very slight and noticeable before a mild, lingering finish. Warmth reveals cranberries.
Alcohol is as expected. The body is light to thin with a gossamer texture. Carbonation is surprisingly light with mild fizz.
I suspect a fresh can would have produced much more fruit. As it is, this is a decent table beer that improves with warmth.

This made-on-Manitoulin unfiltered ruby coloured ale showcases the subtle yet distinct Manitoulin Hawberry, with hints of a caramel influence and an earthy tart finish.
