A crowler poured into 3 pint glasses.
L: SRM 40 pours black with a 1/4" dark khaki head that has very good retention and is creamy in the center, low carbo, medium-light scattered lacing.
S: Accentuated caramelized malts, cocoa, dark fruits. Then with warming raisins and brown bread notes emerge.
T: Taste follows aroma with a hint of plum, a complex blend of chocolates. It is gently sweet, and the flavors are balanced.
F: Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly creamy and on the edge of being milky with a medium body and a medium length lightly dry finish.
O: This beer might be slightly off style but it is very tasty and has a delightful drinkability. It might lean towards a more Germanic Dunkel than a Belgian Dubbel due to the lack of Belgian yeast flavor, which is distinctive and truly sets them apart from others. Overall it is a very good beer.
