Another offering from Pivnica Star Grad Old Town Brewery. This one was bought in a bottle at a Vero supermarket. On the bottle the brewery is also called Temov Brewery.
Pilsner Charshisko pours a very hazy (odd for the style) golden/beige straw color. Modest head quickly dissipates and leaves a thin ring with light lacing.
Putting it to the nose there is a sweet barley aroma, perhaps pilsner malt and honey. Also, there are fruity tones such as peach and pear, as well as a floral hops aroma that emerges midway. Overall, pleasant but a bit out of context for the style.
Tasting it makes it somewhat clear as to why the aroma felt out of sorts for a German Pilsner. Many of its qualities actually seem more Saison like. For example, the palate is relatively dry, lemony, pear like and peppery. Perhaps conforming more to the Pilsner style, there is a grassy hops finish.
The body kind of bothers me in that it is medium to light yet has a papery quality in flavor. The malt character is a bit thin. The carbonation is moderate but seems to provide little crispness.
I have enjoyed this brewery's beers, however, this one kind of missed the mark.
