This is hands down the best berry flavored saison I’ve had in my life. But haters gonna hate...

On-draught @ the taproom in Queens. $7 per 12oz pour.
"Saison aged on Blackberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, and Blueberries." 7% ABV.
Pours a dark red body with a white cap (zero retention since it's just a floating ring, not a proper head).
Aroma is a berry blast, almost like pureed berry frozen yogurt. Pleasantly tart. No funkiness or over brettanomyces characteristics. More suggestive up a straight-down-the-middle fruited ale than a saison, to be honest. Timid.
Taste is berry-emphatic but lacks the tartness that would really help this avoid tasting too sweet or artificial. Indeed, many drinkers may find this cloying if not medicinal. Raspberry is most prominent, with blueberry and blackberry trailing well behind. Strawberry never rings distinct in the mix. I find no brettanomyces flavour or funkiness at all. Malt backbone is neutral, bending to the whimsy of the berry.
Smooth, wet, unrefreshing, medium-bodied. Too heavy and filling. More of a soft smacky delicate feel would do it wonders.
Overall, it's not bad as a berry ale, but judged as a saison it's pretty lackluster. Great fruited beers (whether saison or not) require more lightness and approachability; this is too thick, sludgy, and hefty on the palate. I'd love to see them brew this with less malt and with some bacteria cultures in the mix...as-is it's decent but won't dazzle discerning drinkers.
