absolutely incredible to me that this is gluten free. they are really pushing the envelope with what is possible in gluten free beer, and with the exception of an ipa i didnt care much for, i think all of them have been as good, or even better, than a lot of their full gluten counterparts. i have loved their buckwheat wit, their pumpkin ale, and others, but this is next level, to craft this kind of malt depth, roastiness, and alcohol strength without gluten is downright amazing. i would chose this over plenty of normal brews, thats how good it is. lots of body and heft, warming alcohol as the style permits, and a lot of grain character from whiskey soaked raisin to good espresso, with light sweetness bringing it all together. plenty of oak and bourbon on this too, and cool dried fruitiness underneath, figs and dates, just delicious, and shockingly complex for what it is. smooth and even silky in feel. as a gluten free beer, its epic, as good as it gets, but even against other barrel aged imperial stouts it is a standout. a surprise for sure, but this one really impressed me. id love to know more about how they are making these beers, this really takes gluten free beer to a whole new realm for me. i could only imagine how thankful for this i would be if i had a gluten intolerance!!! wow.
