Picked up this after seeing it while using my Groupon at Mason Ale Works. Seemed like a fair price ($7 for a 12-oz. can) for a beer that was described as a Maple Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine with Cacao Nibs, Maple Syrup, and Geisha Coffee. The can description read,” Drink this limited edition Maple Bourbon Barrel Aged English Style Barleywine carefully. This beer screams reckless negligence as you will definitely not get your deposit back on the snowmobile you rented with your buds. Aged in Maple Syrup Barrels that previously stored bourbon, Bakers Dozen has an absurd amount of silky smooth, boozy and maple goodness. Just for a little extra something we threw in some rare super premium Geisha Coffee to add some amazing espresso notes. We recommend drinking this with your fellow canucks over a box of donuts washed down with some milk in a bag. #BIL”
Poured a very dark, almost pitch black, color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki tan frothy head. Calm underneath with no noticeable bubbles. Outstanding spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled maple syrup, smooth bourbon, rich roasted coffee, cacao, chocolate syrup, dark fruit, plum, hints of purple grape and light black licorice. Surprisingly not as good from the can as the glass. (Smell - 4.50)
Taste followed the nose. In order got maple syrup, rich roasted coffee, smooth bourbon, cacao, chocolate syrup, dark fruit, dark chocolate and hints of black licorice. So damn smooth for 13 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.50)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Just an incredible beer. Will be grabbing a few more of these for sure. (Overall - 4.50)
