Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. snifter glass
Price: $2.99
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: March 13, 2020
Consumed: March 13, 2020
Misc.: No canned on date
Picked this up on a recent trip to Windmill Farms after already grabbing four or five others. I always like trying Mason Ale beers, even though I don’t always like them. Can had it as, “Big, bitter and classic West Coast. Hops: Cascade, Centennial, Mosaic, Idaho 7, and Amarillo. Malts: 2-Row, Caramalt, Vienna, and Rye.” Seems like an old school meets new school IPA.
Poured a clear amber color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy off-white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass at different speeds. Outstanding spotty lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled pine, resin, black pepper, rye, Cascade, Amarillo, Mosaic, tangerine, orange rind and red grapefruit. More hop flavor in the can, getting Cascade, Amarillo, Mosaic and Centennial (not any Idaho 7). (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted a little better than the smell. In order got Cascade, pine, resin, black pepper, rye, Amarillo, bitter tangerine rind, Mosaic, orange and red grapefruit. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Really liked this one. Just a smooth West Coast DIPA. (Overall - 4.25)
