Headed over the Windmill Farms to see what new stuff they had. This one was described on Untappd as “The newest release in our Checkerboard series, Checkerboard Blue features a 7lb Double Dry Hop with Strata, Galaxy, Mosaic, & Citra per barrel. Aromas of tropical fruit and berries come through and finish with a nice slight bitterness for a hazy.” That’s a great hop combo.
Poured a light golden hazy color with 1-to-2 fingers of frothy off-white head. Couldn’t really see any bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Average lacing. Bad retention. (Sight - 3.25)
Smelled Strata and Galaxy right away, followed by Mosaic and Citra. Also passion fruit, peach, weed, grass, grapefruit, floral and some pineapple. Also really good from the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted grapefruit, Strata, grass, Galaxy, passion fruit, peach, weed, Citra, Mosaic, pineapple, floral, berry and Juicy Fruit gum. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Juicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Damn. Just a really solid hazy DIPA. I think I underrated this overall. (Overall - 4.00)

In the glass a murky light orange beer, not much head retention.
On the nose is bold ripe fruits.
On the palate is apricot and passionfruit, guava and grapefruit.
In the mouth is good bitterness, chewy medium mouthfeel.
My thought is it's a nice one beer sipper.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Hazy, straw colored body. Thin finger of white head, which leaves behind an interrupted cap. Minimal spot lacing. Some white particles settle to bottom of the glass.
Aroma of fruit, pineapple, melon, and berry.
Taste is fruit sweet, with a brief bitter note at the end. Has flavors of dirty lemonade, pineapple, melon, and berry (more like blueberry). Has some hop spice going into the aftertaste.
Medium plus mouth feel. Close to a syrup texture. Good carbonation.
Clean fruity tasting IPA, without the common rotten fruit flavor. Good for sweet fruitiness, slight bitter note, and the spicy hop note.
