Yeah, I saw this beer at the Total Wine in Baton Rouge, Louisiana when I was there not too long ago, and yeah, the label drew me in both because of it's description and design and yeah, this lived up to the anticipation that I had for it even though I've had most of the highly ranked and rated Imperial IPA's over the years. This was on par with those because of it's flavor, depth, and heft as this really shone through when completely warmed up!
This had a nice, brassy hue to it that was pretty uniform in hue and topped off with enough foamy suds to last for the duration. Most of the lacing left behind was in the middle of my pint glass as there were scattered hints of bubbly residue left here and there outside of that. Tons of agave, turbid and earthy hops, apricot and dank peach, grainy rye, and booze were in the nose as the taste was just as heavy-handed, thick, syrupy, and ultimately strong from start to finish. Complex, deep, and heavy, this was easy to enjoy but not a smooth sipper at the same time as I had to take my time with this because of everything going on. Maybe some salt and lime would have livened things up but as it was, this was quite exotic and weighty on the palate down to the last sip.
Of course, that was in large part due to the alcohol in this beer as there was plenty of it in every sense. A date on this can would have been nice although there wasn't any sediment to be seen in the liquid. If you desire something otherworldly in an Imperial IPA, look no further than this. There's so much green dankness here to enjoy, as the cosmic nature of the label was on par with the nature of this brew. Props to Second Line for coming up with something on par with the more notable examples of this from the coasts!
