Drank from a 500ml (1 pint 0.9 fluid ounces) bottle purchased on Tavour
Bottle date: 8/2024
Batch #: 4
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a medium bodied, near pitch black hue. Definitely somewhat thinner for the style than I anticipated. The liquid was topped by a frothy, half-inch tall, saddle brown head that broke into a medium sized, lasting collar. After each sip, a wall of spotty, streaky lacing stuck along the glass.
The aroma was outstanding. Hazelnut came through big time. Loads of fragrant vanilla too. Mocha notes were also quite prominent. Nice rich dark chocolate presence. Bit of creamed and sugared, dark roast coffee as well. There was a subtle roasted malt note too.
While the aroma was super smooth, the flavor profile was really roasty and rough around the edges. Big, roasted malt notes up front. Loads of bitter espresso as well. Hazelnut was noticeable in the center, but it was definitely more subtle here than in the aroma. Vanilla was also apparent. More bitter, acrid roast and burnt espresso on the back end and the finish. There was an intense metallic quality here initially, but it dissipated as the beer opened up.
The mouthfeel was rich and syrupy but thinner in body than I anticipated. The liquid contained a super fine, subtle effervescence that tuned creamy and slick on the palate.
Hazelsaurus Rex had an amazing, hazelnut forward aroma, but the flavor profile was far too bitter and acrid for my palate. At one point in time, I probably would have really enjoyed this beer, but in today’s landscape, it falls short of the mark.

Brownish black body with a khaki collar but an impressive amount of bands of lacing. Wow the news is exactly what you hope for: the hazelnut and coffee, bring out chocolate, vanilla, fudge, slight marshmallow. Taste is not as much as one hoped for the coffee roast is quite strong, leaving heavily toasted hazelnut, burnt caramel, bittersweet chocolate, charred earth, and a hint of vanilla. Feel is coffee percolated and lush, smooth before harsher finish. Just make sure to smell it a lot as you sip

This one checks in at 12% alcohol per volume
Pours a somewhat murky mahogany with mocha colored head. Average head retention better lacing
S: Hazelnut, mocha, some dark chocolate once warm
T: follows the nose, dryness and vanilla sweetness a little bit of charred grain and woody hops up front. Hints of banana some vanilla wafer, little bit of watered down hazelnut mocha as this beer warms up. Finishes warming with coffee woody hops & hazelnuts some cocoa too
MF; Medium body somewhat creamy carbonation
Tasty fun version of a coffee stout drinks easy for the heft
