Bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout with double vanilla
We really love the way that whole vanilla beans complement our rich and luscious barrel-aged stouts, so for our latest creation, we decided to add a double dose, including organic vanilla beans sourced from both Tahiti and Mexico. Planifolia is a hand-selected blend of stout in aged Breckenridge Bourbon barrels, to be showcased with just vanilla. This combination exudes tons of deep floral and smoky aromas, with a solid roast malt backbone providing a platform for the vanilla to shine.

5/25 Batch #5
Pours a dark mahogany but jet black in the glass with minimal head. Nose is bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar. Taste is barrel-forward, bourbon, charred oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, faint coffee. Mouthfeel is low carbonation, sticky, syrupy. Finish is largely an extension of what you taste, perhaps with a slight nutty note toward the tail-end on the exhale.

Poured motor oil black from tap. A tiny layer of head. The nose is dominated by vanilla, but bourbon came through as well.
The taste is amazing. Bourbon, chocolate, slightly roasted malts, and a nice nutty note. Thick and creamy mouthfeel. The stouts from Pure Project are almost always fantastic. Love this one a lot (so much that I grabbed a bottle).

Nice strong BBA stout, however the claims of double vanilla didn't quite impart themselves in the taste, neither at the start or finish, at least to me. This was a premium priced stout from them and that made me expect even more. I wouldn't say I was disappointed in anyway, however I have had a few other stouts from PP that seemed to shine a little better.
