Introducing the second in our new series of core stouts, Lost Monarch. We added organic Guatemalan coffee (roasted by our friends at Mostra) and organic Oregon hazelnuts to this imperial stout, resulting in a myriad of aromas including nutty coffee, pizzelle, vanilla, bakers chocolate and toffee. Flavors of rich hazelnut and mocha mingle among a decadent, velvety mouthfeel.

Had on tap at Pure Project / Fifth Avenue. Very good Imp stout. Flavor was solid for coffee , cacao and hazelnuts. A bit bright on the body; bit too crisp.
Nose was full and rich; really worth noting. Overall it came in as a superior Imp stout worthy of a 4.5 to separate from others.
p.s. To be fair I had this side by side with Corylus Batch 3… which really raised the bar on cacao; hazelnuts and the coffee used in brewing… plus extended months in BA.
Expect I might have given a bit better rating on taste if not my drinking Corylus at same time.

Look - black and thick with a slight tan head but a really nice rimming and lacing
Smell - so much hazelnut with coffee in the back
Taste - straight coffee with hazelnut creamer
Feel - medium full body and creamy
Overall - if you like coffee with hazelnut creamer, this is your cold version of that

Poured at fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with a nice layer of light brown head. Nose is milk chocolate, fudge, marshmallow, hazelnuts, vanilla, slight maple, and a light layer of coffee. Incredibly smooth.

Taste is insane. A beautiful marriage of flavors. Marshmallow, chocolate, vanilla, nuts, and light coffee. In fact, I probably wouldn't even think about coffee unless I knew it was in this one. Very chocolate and nut forward. Definitely on the sweet side. Maple, a touch of Christmas spice, and a bit of wood. However, absolutely no bitterness anywhere to be found.

Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Just perfect. Overall, this is by far one of the better beers I have had in a while. Wow.

Absolutely wonderful coffee stout, but not overpowering flavor. I can taste a nutty hint but I had to read the description to learn it was hazelnuts. Some hint of chocolate as well, but again not overwhelming. This one ties for second place in my book.
