man i always kind of forget about how much i like these guys until i run into one of their beers. this thing is awesome, way under the radar, at least in these parts, wish i had better access to their beers, especially these wild ones i love to much! this one is spontaneous, red wine barrel aged, and done with marionberries and tart cherries, and it absolutely rules. real deep ruby red color on this, obviously fruited with a low glow and a pretty almost inch of off white head resting easily atop it, no settling out of that hardly at all, relatively good clarity overall, love the color depth. aroma on this is tart but also wild, vinous all the way, tannic and mature with an almost lambic mix of funk to it, some medicinal character to the cherries, jam from the marionberries, sweet and tangy alike, red roses, winter spices, cognac, cherry candy. the flavor is fruit forward sure, but its also equally fermentation driven, which i love, and the pace of this is slower than normal even with effervescent carbonation, like it unfurls real patiently. tangy cherry first, red wine character, sweet oak moving into prune and blackberry and black currant notes, with old bretty mustiness and a cedar thing later on, and it warms up even more complex. subtle malt but some raw character to the grain, sweet from fruit not from grain, but dry overall. cranberry, rose, heavy red wine, good pucker, very well made. i really enjoyed this, always do from these guys, and having this on tap was awesome. killer stuff, great mix of fruits.
