My first encounter with Pure Project, amazing considering they’ve been around for nine years & I’ve haunted the San Diego area working for weeks at a time. Maybe hit their taproom in January?
Dark black, thin ring of dingy brownish head. The nose is dim: lightly fruity, touch of alcohol.
In For The Night brings the peach brandy in spades; them barrels must’ve been wet. Peach brandy is up front but not mugging for the camera, but providing a nice counterpoint to the rich, roasty malts. A little booze adds, doesn’t distract, but does build, sapping judgment as the night goes on. Touches of cherry & chocolate play peek-a-boo. Sweetness does escalate, too. This might have been a good 500ML bottle to share with another human. Except I hate humans.
Very good beer with an unusual barrel. I approve.
