White Elm is turning out new brews with abandon and here is the next.
Pours orange-gold and pretty hazy. Excellent foamy head and good lacing that lingers well too.
Aromas of cucumber, peach, tangerine and ruby red grapefruit.
The flavors follow the nose. Similar in some respects to an NEIPA, it still stays on the APA side the ledger because the flavors are properly restrained. Pear, nectarine, cucumber, honeydew and citrus zest on the tip of the tongue. Some judicious but present grass and herb in midstream; closing with just a splash of near-IPA resin and leafy goodness. Well balanced.
The body and mouthfeel is where this brew stakes it place on the "APA" side of the APA/IPA line, delivering a medium-light feel, good carbonation, and a drying but not quite crisp finish, with a touch of booze present.
White Elm is slowly becoming my favorite "regional" (i.e., nearby but not "local"). It can be difficult to deliver an outstanding APA, because the style doesn't permit the big flavors that an IPA brings to the table; and brewers often "cheat" by calling an APA what is properly called an IPA. This doesn't reach Pseudo Sue level nirvana for me, but is a very flavorful, and very careful and balanced APA/IPA line-straddler that I hope they keep brewing.

12 oz can best by 8/20/19 poured into Stella glass.
Pulpy juicy color like tropicana juice, creamy 2 finger head receding to 1/2 finger leaving wispy lace behind.
Lots of melon on the nose, talking lots of melon - honeydew, cantaloupe, muskmelon. Slight juicy orange and tangerines, some faint ashy dank and grapefruit.
Flavor is punchy and powerful, both tropical and citrus-y at the same time, yet bringing a nice piney/dank punch. Loads of papaya, followed by dried apricot and mango slices, clementine, alcohol heat, then pomelo and blood orange, and finally more mango and clementine. It's a fruity dank hot mess in all the right ways.
Feel is crisp and juicy and slightly hot with pleasant acidity. Mild mild lingering resins. So weird about how hot it is at 6% alcohol.
Overall, an incredible juicy delicious IPA from White Elm. So proud of these guys. Support 'em.
