Poured from a can into a Nonic pint.
Pours opaque and very dark brown--but not quite black. Nice head and lacing, although even the lacing doesn't make the duration.
Aromas of caramel, toffee, chocolate, coffee, earth,
Caramel sweetness on the tip of the tongue, but not as sticky and sweet as expected. Some mild coffee and cocoa flavors too. Earthy hops arrive in restrained fashion in midstream to balance things out. Some buttermilk/lactose character here as well. A little tobacco and ash at the finish, along with a growing booze tingle as the brew warms. Nice complexity.
The brew is definitely medium full. Smooth and somewhat creamy. Still has decent carbonation and a drying finish.
This definitely hits every note for the style. Deceptively complex and very smooth,
