16 oz can from a heavy ass 6 pack, into Pearl Street Pint Glass.
Has a crystal clear medium blonde color with a tall creamy cap of 2 fingers that recedes rather quickly to a 1/2 finger. No lacing so far.
The flaked maize is evident in the aroma as well as some other wonderfully inviting musty barley grain, then some light pepper notes, some earthy damp mushrooms, and a faint hint of lemon peel.
Flavor brings much of the same with the damp grain, grapefruit pith, earthy mushroom, some slight orange pith, and a finish of rice, corn, and a suggestion of pepper seeds.
Feel is crisp and carbonated and wet, but light-medium bodied enough to be just barely outside the realm of straight tip-back. Biting carbonation and light acidity prickles the tongue on the finish with a slight slick residue as well.
Overall, I'm on my second can now, and one must appreciate its nuances, but this Mexican lager is executed well. It is a bit heavier than Tecate, to be sure, perhaps if a "Double Tecate" was brewed, it would be much like this. As with any adjunct lager, this won't blow your hair back, but it is one of the best Mexican lagers I've ever had. At its price point it's almost staggering, especially for a small operation like White Elm. I had to look again. But then again, White Elm has a penchant for great value at market. Give it a shot, and if you don't like it, your other beer drinking friends probably will.
