White Elm Pulpagogo Strawberry Freezer Cake Sour (Strawberry/Vanilla Granola/Lime/Almond), 5% ABV. Pours thick and murky brown with a 3-finger off-white head that left puree residue instead of lacing. Nose is strawberry, vanilla, lime, and faint granola. Taste is tart strawberry and lime, some granola, slightly sweet, moderately tart. Excellent thick mouthfeel, overall excellent. Not a pastry sour.

White Elm making fruited sours over here. Gotta see if I've been asleep on these.
16 oz can, no date here, into Boiler red label snifter. Keeping it Lincoln tonight.

Crisp snap of the cap and a murky yellow-ish liquid spews forth. This one definitely wins the award for the most unsightly beer I've ever seen. It's so nasty. This looks like straight up sewage backup. Like the kind that Joe Dirt gets on his head from the crapper tank. Head lasts a total of 20 seconds and becomes a mess of pulpy garbage floating on top. This is for sure getting a 1.

Aroma is frozen strawberries, yellow cake, kiwi, and lactose. Very slight base malt peeking through. Aroma from the glass melds it all together into a nice strawberry angel food cake vibe.

Flavor seems to play tug of war between sour and sweet. I kinda like their sour culture - it's interesting and tangy, but it's not quite dialed in. There's something spoiling here. The fruit flavors (strawberry, kiwi, a hint of sweet key lime) come in to supplement and tangle back and forth with the sour culture. I'd say it's about 50/50 sweet and sour. Zero bitterness as expected. Finishes on Lucas Mexican Candy and strawberry sucker with a hint of strawberry creme saver. As it warms past "freezer" stage, the flaws become much more apparent. Moldy cake, over-alch'd lime margarita, cheesy almonds.

Feel is juicy and thick, tangy, has low to medium carbonation, and has very slight alcohol which I did not expect to come popping forward. Perhaps it is more than 5%, after all we have fruit at play here.

Overall, an interesting and substandard trial - but not a abysmal one. My low rating has a lot to do with its appearance. It is not a bad beer. It just has issues. This was a little disconnected and these Pulpagogos may need some work to elevate them to their steep price tag. Not everyone's cut out to do $6 fruited sours but it seems everyone wants to do them. Damn shame. Just like hazy IPA. Lots of confusion out there.

Not sure if I'll revisit the series, but curiosity will probably get the best of me if a delicious-looking flavor comes out.
